Know this: Class Prerequisites
To make sure we can spend most of our time learning and building, here are some things you should have/think about before you arrive…
General needs: students need to already know the very basics of using a computer, email and going on the web. (i.e. how to click, double-click, use a keyboard, visit a web page and check email)
If you do NOT already have a domain name purchased:
- ~ 5 domain name ideas – tip: maybe bring along some key words around what you do/are all about.
- ~ You need access to email through the web like Gmail or ask your hosting provider how to get webmail for what you use regularly for email. For example, if you are with Shaw, you would go here to log in. Contact me if you are unsure and/or would like an invite to Gmail.
- ~ A credit card with at least $20 available on it, or PayPal. We will be purchasing your domain name and hosting “real-time” so you can be walked through the process. We use a secure network and I will not be keeping any of your information.
If you DO have a domain already:
- ~ You need to bring/have access to your customer name/number and password from where you purchased your domain from. If you also happen to have hosting already, you will also need to have the access codes for your hosting “backend.” If you are unsure, feel free to contact me.
- ~ You need access to email through the web like Gmail or ask your hosting provider how to get webmail for what you use regularly for email. For example, if you are with Shaw, you would go here to log in. Contact me if you are unsure and/or would like an invite to Gmail.
- ~ A credit card or PayPal available since we will be setting you up with hosting real-time in class, if you don’t already have it (or, if you wish to switch hosts). We use a secure network and I will not be keeping any of your information.
